Thoughtful Psychiatric Care for Children, Adolescents & Adults

Do you ever...
-
Wonder whether anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood changes, or other emotional challenges may be affecting the way you or your child feels and functions?
-
Notice that therapy has been helpful, but wonder whether additional support could make a difference?
-
Feel uncertain about medication and wish you had someone who would take the time to understand the whole picture before making recommendations?
-
Wonder whether difficulties with attention, organization, motivation, or school performance could be related to ADHD?
-
Wish your therapist and psychiatric provider could work together, rather than feeling like you have to coordinate different pieces of your care on your own?

If you found yourself relating to some of these questions, a psychiatric evaluation may be a helpful next step.

We offer comprehensive psychiatric services for children, adolescents, and adults in the same warm, thoughtful environment that defines all of our care.

Psychiatric care that looks at the whole person
Mental health is rarely about one symptom, one diagnosis, or one part of a person's life.

Anxiety may affect sleep. ADHD may influence school performance, relationships, confidence, and emotional regulation. Depression may appear as sadness for one person and irritability, exhaustion, or withdrawal for another. Stress, trauma, physical health, relationships, developmental changes, and life circumstances can all influence how someone is feeling.

That is why our psychiatric care begins with listening.

Our Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner takes a holistic approach to understanding your concerns, considering not only symptoms, but also your history, environment, relationships, physical health, daily functioning, and overall well-being.

Our approach is different. The goal is not simply to ask, "What diagnosis fits?" Rather, to understand, "What is happening for this person, and what might help?"
Comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluations
A psychiatric evaluation provides an opportunity to better understand symptoms, concerns, and patterns that may be affecting everyday life.

Your provider may explore areas such as:
-
Anxiety and excessive worry
-
Depression and mood changes
-
ADHD, attention, and executive functioning
-
Emotional regulation and irritability
-
Sleep difficulties
-
Trauma-related symptoms
-
Intrusive or obsessive thoughts
-
Stress and overwhelm
-
Behavioral or developmental concerns
-
School or work functioning
-
Previous mental health treatment
-
Current and previous medications
-
Medical and family history
Following the evaluation, your provider will discuss clinical impressions and recommendations with you and work collaboratively to determine appropriate next steps.
Medication may be one option, but it is not automatically the answer.

ADHD Assessment & Support
When Attention Difficulties Affect More Than Attention

ADHD can affect much more than someone's ability to concentrate.

For children and adolescents, it may show up as difficulty completing assignments, staying organized, remembering instructions, managing time, regulating emotions, or keeping up with expectations at school.

For adults, ADHD may look like chronic procrastination, forgetfulness, difficulty initiating tasks, feeling overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities, or constantly working harder than others seem to in order to stay organized.

Wellbrook offers psychiatric assessment for ADHD for both children and adults.

For school-age children and adolescents, assessment may also provide clinically relevant information that families can use when communicating with schools and considering appropriate educational supports.

When additional psychological, neuropsychological, or educational testing is needed beyond the scope of our psychiatric services, we can help families understand appropriate next steps and connect with additional resources when indicated.
Medication Management
Medication With Thoughtfulness, Not Just a Prescription
For some people, medication can be an important part of mental health treatment. But medication management should involve much more than writing a prescription.

Our psychiatric provider takes time to understand how you are feeling, how medication is affecting you, whether symptoms are improving, and whether side effects or other concerns need attention.

Medication management may include reviewing medication options, starting medication when clinically appropriate, monitoring effectiveness and side effects, adjusting medication when needed, reviewing previous medication experiences, and considering medical conditions or other medications that may influence treatment.

We want our clients to understand their treatment and feel comfortable asking questions along the way.
Psychiatric care should feel collaborative, never rushed.
Specialized experience with children & adolescents
Finding psychiatric care for a child or teenager can feel especially important, and sometimes overwhelming.

Children are not simply smaller adults. Their emotional and behavioral health needs to be understood within the context of development, family, school, relationships, and the many changes occurring as they grow.

Our Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner brings extensive experience working with children and adolescents as well as adults, allowing families to receive psychiatric care from a provider who understands the unique needs of younger clients.

Parents and caregivers are thoughtfully included when appropriate, while children and adolescents are given space to develop trust, ask questions, and participate in their own care.
Our goal is for young people to feel understood, not simply evaluated.
A holistic approach to psychiatric care
At Wellbrook, we believe emotional well-being is influenced by many interconnected parts of life.

Depending on your individual needs, psychiatric care may include conversations about sleep, physical health, nutrition, movement, stress, relationships, daily routines, life transitions, and other factors that may influence how you feel.

Medication can sometimes help reduce symptoms, while therapy can help people understand patterns, process experiences, develop coping skills, and create meaningful change. For some people, a combination of approaches provides the most comprehensive support.

This whole-person perspective allows us to think beyond symptom reduction and consider your overall well-being.

Therapy & Psychiatry, working together
One of the Things That Makes Wellbrook Different
Mental health care can sometimes feel fragmented.

A person sees a therapist in one practice, a psychiatric provider somewhere else, and perhaps another healthcare provider in a third location. Each person may understand one part of what is happening, while the client or parent is left trying to connect all the pieces.

At Wellbrook, we have the opportunity to do things differently.

Our psychiatric provider can work collaboratively with our therapists, with appropriate client permission, to create a more connected and comprehensive approach to care.

Your therapist may understand patterns that emerge during weekly sessions. Your psychiatric provider may notice changes related to symptoms, medication, sleep, attention, or mood. When those perspectives come together, treatment can become more informed and cohesive.

For families, this can also mean fewer disconnected providers and a greater sense that the people supporting their child are working toward the same goals.

You do not need to see a Wellbrook therapist to receive psychiatric services. Our psychiatric provider can also collaborate with outside therapists, physicians, schools, or other professionals when appropriate and with proper authorization.
What to expect at your first appointment
Your first psychiatric appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know you.

Your provider will review your current concerns, symptoms, health and medication history, previous treatment experiences, family history, and other factors that may be relevant to your care. Most importantly, you will have time to talk about what you have been experiencing and what you hope will change.

From there, your provider will discuss clinical impressions and recommendations with you.
Recommendations may include medication, continued therapy, lifestyle or behavioral supports, additional assessment, coordination with another healthcare provider, or a combination of approaches.

Treatment decisions are made with you, not simply for you.

More than medication
At Wellbrook, psychiatric care is another extension of the way we believe mental health care should feel.

Thoughtful. Collaborative. Personal. Connected.

Whether you are wondering if medication could help, seeking an ADHD assessment for your child, looking for a psychiatric provider who understands younger clients, or simply trying to better understand what you have been experiencing, you do not need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

Sometimes the first step is simply having a conversation with someone who will take the time to listen.
